4 Environmentaly safe nail polish brands

By

These days everyone is trying to be a little greener. We are thinking about reducing our mark on the environment and making safer, healthier choices for our selves and our family. In the past in order to do this, sometimes we had to sacrifice simple pleasers along the way. Now you can be stylish and eco friendly. Today’s cosmetic companies are catching on to this trend and there are several options for environmentally friendly finger nail polish now on the market.

Nail polish has a long list of chemicals that go into the little bottle to give you such pretty fingers and toes. In one bottle, I own the ingredients include some of the following: ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, citrocellulose, triphenyl phosphate, adipic acid/neopentyl glycol/trimellitic anhydride copolymer, isopropyl alcohol, trimethyl pentanyl diisobutyrate silica, calcium aluminum borosilicate, steraralkonium bentonite, benzophenone-1, dimethicone, stearalkonium, and many more chemicals.

Check out www.cosmeticsdatabase.coma database of chemicals used in cosmetics, which lets you know the toxicity level of the chemicals (depending on usage) in your makeup. Just typing in ethyl acetate the first ingredient, I found a chemical with a moderate toxic level rating. This chemical has been linked to cancer, developmental and reproductive toxicity, irritation, to the skin, eyes, or lungs, nuerotoxicity, organ system toxicity, and occupational hazards. If this alone as such a negative affect on human health, in all likely hood it is just as toxic to the environment.

Does this necessarily mean you should dump all your make up this second? No, it does not. Just like everything else, you should do your research. Many companies are trying to meet the demand for safer products both for you and for the environment. With very little effort, I was able to find these non-toxic or environmentally friendly polishes on the web.
